Top Tips for citizen journalists

I've been involved in Oxford Indymedia for some time, and had many chats with other people involved in many aspects of citizen journalism. I would like to document top tips for beginners so they can create their own hard hitting media. My idea at the moment is to try and come up with 10 top tips (more might be too hard to remember), and then think of a way of promoting these tips.

What would your tips be for the following types of media?

  • Written word
  • Photos
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Others?

How would you promote these tips? Printed document? Web sites?

Please chuck your answers in the comment below.

Tips for written word

In very bad form, I'll be the first to comment on my own post.

Tip for writing: start with the five Ws - who, where, why, what, when - it makes sure the reader know what you are talking about.
